Patient-to-nurse ratio the key issue

WWI Poster   (by David Henry Souter)
When nurses go on strike, it’s serious business.  Systemic corrections need to be made, not just in pay scales, but
especially in patient-to-nurse ratios.

Those in the trenches know that even the best of nurses cannot adequately serve an excessive caseload.  Studies have been done that back this up.  In order for patients to receive “optimal care,” nursing loads must be lessened.

Nurses from Tenet Health in Florida recently staged a one-day walkout aimed at improving such conditions.  Nationwide efforts are also underway.  RN Fawn Slade stated “that the nurses are here advocating for… [community] safety.”
