Swimming with the sharks just got a whole lot friendlier. We might even play on the same team these days.

More than a hundred nations recently “agreed to strengthen protections for 18 threatened species of sharks and rays.”  Mako sharks, “highly valued for their meat and fins,” are included within this agreement.

Nevertheless, 40 countries (including China and New Zealand) refused to sign on.  Some are claiming a lack of substantiation for these protections, even though said species have been rapidly dwindling.
