Moon Rock (NASA photo) |
And
here they are, 50 years later, still trying
to figure out just what the moon is
made of. Cheese was ruled out long ago,
so folks are now poking at lunar loot.
Hundreds
of pounds of rocky samples were
hauled back to earth during the Apollo
era. While Armstrong collected rocks,
Aldrin was gathering dirt. Rovers then literally
picked up where humans left off.
There
are now more than 100,000 such samples
waiting to be analyzed. Although some
have already been studied, much more remains
to be seen. Today’s technology far exceeds
that of the 1970s.
