It’s
no secret that such footwear can
cause pain and injury. Why back
in 1873, The Times registered complaints
from male soldiers who were
required to wear “high-heeled boots.” This led to problems with walking,
posture and “blistered feet.”
The
overall movement against high heels
gathered international momentum. By
1921, legislators within the State of Utah
sought to pass a bill that would criminalize
even “the possession” of such.
Then
there’s the issue of gender discrimination. While Japanese women
are ordered to wear painful footwear,
their male counterparts hoof
it in “perfectly comfortable shoes.”
