Artist's Rendition of a Pliocene Landscape (John Clark Ridpath) |
Siberia has long been synonymous with frigid harsh weather.
But who knows? It may soon be
synonymous with fun in the sun.
Last month, temperatures there soared 18 degrees Fahrenheit above normal. This might very well have something to do with record-high levels of carbon dioxide, as registered at Hawaii’s Mauna Loa Observatory during that same time.
To put this in long-range perspective, that’s how the atmosphere was during the Pliocene Epoch, three million years ago. Back then,
“sea levels were at least 50 to 80 feet higher than they are now.”
