Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it the ESB?

We humans like to view things in terms of what we already know.

When asteroids are involved, we tend to compare them with earthly objects.  We size them up as follows:  big as a house, large as a plane, long as the Empire State Building.

The one that will soon whiz pass Earth falls into the latter category.  As long as it doesn’t fall into us, we should be okay.  Scientists estimate that it will continue on its merry path while leaving ours intact.

But what if that weren’t the case?  Is there any way to avoid such disaster?  In 2019, an international conference was held to
address these questions.

Dr. Lori Glaze of NASA made it all sound so easy.  She said, “All we have to do is change its speed a little faster or a little slower so that… it crosses either in front of us or behind us.”
