'Pac-Man' meets Coronavirus

Kids might feel helpless in the real world when it comes to COVID-19.  Yet in the virtual world, they’re all about shooting it down.

Twelve-year-old Israel Smith recently designed a video game in which cartoon-like coronaviruses are lasered to death.  With the assistance of Mouse, an organization that helps “vulnerable youths” to creatively use technology, Smith re-mixed the Space Impact game to reflect society’s war on COVID-19.

Smith is now a finalist in a Mouse competition, the results of which will be announced during today’s “virtual ceremony.”
