Light as a Feather

(Public Domain)
Strain sensors are not only used to gauge how much weight a bridge can bear, but are now also used to gauge how much insulin flow a diabetic can bear.

Such sensors have been historically limited in significant ways.  Durability, biocompatibility and elasticity have all needed improvement.

Scientists are therefore excited about “the next wave of strain sensing technology,” which combines the elasticity of rubber with the conductivity of graphene.  These new devices can even detect “the weight of a single feather.”
