Knowing Where to Seek

(NASA/Ames Research Center chart)

“Seek and ye shall find” works best when you know where to look.  And NASA is finally figuring that out.

Rather than randomly beaming signals to God (only) knows where, NASA has narrowed its astrobiological search.  It will now pinpoint those exoplanets which seem most likely to harbor intelligent life.

These worlds could be emitting the "technosignatures" of advanced civilizations, such as “city lights” and/or “swarms of satellites.”  Some exist within habitable zones that even include “atmospheric water vapor.”

One and Done

His and Hers      (Photo by A. Savin)

More than one stiff drink per day can lay you out stiff for good.

Researchers currently say that this holds true for men and women.  The United States Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee now cautions against exceeding the limit of “up to one drink a day.”

They’re not talking tall glasses either…  The Committee has specified that each drink should contain no more than “0.6 ounces of alcohol... the approximate equivalent of a small glass of wine."

This may not sound like a whole lot of fun - but then again, neither does an early death.

She's Got Game

(Fair Use)

Why sit back in a rocking chair when you can battle monsters instead?  Who says that life at 90 has to be humdrum?

Certainly not Hamako Mori. This sprightly lady, affectionately dubbed “Gamer Grandma” by those in the know, spends oodles of time with virtual pursuits such as “Dragon Quest” and “Grand Theft Auto.”  She’s been honing such skills for the past 40 years.

These days, it’s a bit more of a stretch to remain in the game.  Mori therefore “flexes her fingers to keep them nimble.”
