“To hear or not to hear…”
That has become the question in today’s noisy world.
The mute button has therefore become the must button. When
music is blaring, commercials are droning, toilets are flushing and dogs are barking, mute buttons can sure come in handy. And just think: Wouldn’t it be nice if two-faced gossipers had that same kind of off switch?
Although you can’t stop the rain, you can carry an umbrella.
By the same token, we can carry ear plugs. When life gets too audibly unbearable, these portable “ear lids” can see us through.
According to neuroscientist Daniel Levitin, “unwanted music [and] sound are right up there among “the biggest irritants of modern life.”
Perhaps it’s because sound gets into our head (quite literally) in a way that few things can.
