Sniffing or Snuffing?

In the race to literally sniff out viral threats to society, are we snuffing out the precious freedoms upon which our

society rests?

The latest tactic for health-related monitoring involves training dogs for the cause.  So let’s say you’re walking down the street and Fido lunges your way.  He’s sniffing up a storm, and you’re his latest catch.

Then what?  Will you suddenly be hauled off to an isolation ward?  Perhaps you’re first forcibly tested. and then maybe forcibly medicated.  Will you have a say in any of this, other than to stay in your home indefinitely?

And can you be sure that Fido is picking up on COVID, as opposed to your own pet’s scent?  Or to that biscuit in your pocket?  Before trading that much freedom for security, perhaps it’s time to call off the dogs.
