Big-brained humans with lots of time on their dexterous hands have been studying such matters.
Some have concluded that when dinosaurs went extinct, bird bodies shrunk. However, bird brains didn’t.
It doesn’t take a particularly big brain to figure out that bird brains then became proportionately larger. Good things come in small packages, and avian intelligence is no exception. Just ask a parrot, and you might get an astute answer.
