Masses for the Masses

Italy, one of the hardest hit countries by the COVID-19 pandemic, had “banned attendance at Masses” back in March.  This has since been a major point of contention between church and state.

Recently, an agreement was reached by “Italy’s government and Roman Catholic bishops.”  Beginning May 18th, the public can once again attend live Masses, as long as safety measures are strictly adhered to.

Worshippers must wear masks and remain at least one meter apart from one another.  Priests must wear masks and gloves when serving communion wafers.  Handshakes will be forbidden, fonts will not contain holy water, and “choirs will be banned.”

Yet this is a major step in the right direction for all who believe that faith is even more essential than food.
