According to Newsweek,
the Pentagon may have deliberately infected and released ticks into populated areas of the United States “between 1950 and 1975.”
This may have been part of an eventual plan to disable or kill potential enemies.
Could it have also accelerated today’s spread of Lyme disease? Republican Chris Smith of New Jersey proposed a bill that was passed by the House of Representatives last week.
It requires the Department of Defense to investigate whether the Pentagon did indeed conduct such experiments.
Phillip Baker of the American Lyme Disease Foundation thinks not. He has called such claims “false and misleading.”
