So much for All Hallows' Eve

Many don’t know the history of Halloween.  Some couldn’t care less.

But for others, Halloween is a sacred time of year.  It is All Hallows’ Eve, the night before All Saints’ Day.  It is also linked with the Celtic festival of Samhain, an Old Irish term for “summer’s end.”

These days, All Hallows’ Eve is far more secular than religious.  A petition is currently being circulated by the Halloween & Costume Association, urging that this holiday be permanently moved to the last Saturday in October.

For many, it comes down to this:  Why party for two hours on a weeknight when you can party for two days on a weekend?  And you won’t hear a peep about Pope Gregory III at these gala affairs…
