Just Gelling

A Hydrogel Pad    (Photo by Morty)
When it comes to wound healing, scientists from Harvard and McGill have been gelling.

Attempting to emulate the properties of fetal skin, they’ve come up with “active adhesive dressings” made from thermoresponsive hydrogels that are tough but stretchable.  Embedded with bits of silver, these also have “antimicrobial properties.”

Testing on mice and pigs has thus far closed wounds much quicker and reduced overall healing time.  A computer model has suggested that human wounds would show similar responsiveness.
