Discovering Ziklag

Before David was king of ancient Israel, Saul was.  Eventually sensing a threat to his throne, Saul set out to seize the young
David.

David therefore went into hiding, seeking refuge in a place called Ziklag.  Ziklag, ironically, was a Philistine town. Gigantic Goliath, as described in 1 Samuel 17, was a Philistine.

Archaeologists now believe that they've discovered Ziklag “near Kiryat Gat in central Israel.”  Their excavations have revealed artifacts which “match the characteristics” of those found within known Philistine locations.

The Bible explains that the Amalekites “ransacked and burned” Ziklag.  The remains of burned buildings were found within this Kiryat Gat vicinity.
