Plant-based from Harvard Med

A plant-based diet is not necessarily   a vegan one.  Or even a vegetarian one.  It simply includes a focus upon plant-based foods.

An example of such, the Mediterranean diet, has been found to reduce the risk of depression, heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. This diet does not totally eliminate animal-based products, but healthfully considers the amount consumed.

So how does a meat-and-potatoes fan shift the balance toward potatoes-and-meat?  Here are some tips from Harvard Med writer Katherine McManus, MS, RD, LDN:  think of meat as a side dish rather than as a main course, go with whole-grain breakfast choices, turn a salad into a hearty meal, and utilize vegetable fats from nuts, olives and seeds.
