It
has become common within certain
cities for red-light cameras to
catch speeders in the act.
Although
this might sound good in
theory, it has been misused in practice. Because more tickets mean
more dollars, cities have sometimes
shortened “the time of
yellow lights to trigger more citations.” Not only that, the use of
such cameras can result in
“an increase in rear-end collisions.”
Texas
is therefore seeking to become the
11th state to ban their usage.
This may
be wise since lawsuits questioning the
constitutionality of these cameras have
already begun.
