Wanted: Dead or Alive! (Leonardo da Vinci) |
These
days, even a work of art can seem real, especially when artificial intelligence
is involved. Samsung’s deepfake
technology has recently created
a “living portrait” of Mona Lisa.
The famous lady now seems to
move “her head, eyes and mouth.”
She
is not the only one to be jolted into
existence. In 2017, Dr. Supasorn Suwajanakorn
created “a fake video of
President Barack Obama.” This type
of technology could certainly invoke
dire political consequences. Celebrity
photos have even been manipulated to “create
pornography.”
Nevertheless,
proponents insist that
there’s a silver lining. They say
that “grieving relatives” can
now “create avatars” of deceased
loved ones.
