Never Too Late

Eighth graders these days are often more child than adult.  Not so when Pete Sabedra was growing up.

In 1940 his father died, and Sabedra was forced to quit school and begin work.  Just a few years later, he was sent off to war.

World War II had begun, and Sabedra was stationed in Germany.  After serving “in the infantry and with the military police,” he thankfully survived.

Once back home, Sabedra worked two jobs: for the railroad and at the hospital.  He finally got to retire in 1985, then picked up where he left off long ago.  After earning a GED, this stalwart gentleman received an honorary high-school diploma at age 91.
