Two or Three...

Gospel of Matthew  (Public Domain)
Yes, Jesus did say that “where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them.”  One can therefore make the point, as our vice president recently did, that it is not necessary to gather in larger groups for worship.

Nevertheless, where does the line between public health and freedom of religion begin to blur?  To what extent should we barter freedom of assembly and worship for mitigation of
disease?

These are no longer ivory-tower discussions, but have lately become inquiries that cut to the very core of American choice.  If essential public services are rightfully allowed to continue, it is important to ask:  Is not the mutual encouragement of faith also an essential public service?
