Book Smart

“Book smart” used to mean that you analyzed every last word.   It may now mean that you analyzed the parchment they’re written on.

After searching for historical clues within animal bones, archaeologists had a better idea.  Why not search within preserved skins instead?  And what better place to discover such skins than within the covers of parchment-filled books?

In fact, pages of the famous York Gospels seem “to come mostly
from female calves.”  Never fear, this holy book does not need to
be desecrated in order to study its secrets.  All it takes is a clean
eraser and some light rubbing in order to obtain bovine DNA.  And if things go really well, you might also glean who thumbed through those pages so long ago.
