She'll forgive them their debt

Senator Warren   (Public Domain)
Many students have worked hard for a college education, only to graduate with a truckload of debt.

Elizabeth Warren has a plan to relieve them of this burden.  If elected president, she will bypass Congress and “directly authorize the Department of Education” to forgive up to $50,000 of an individual’s “federal student debt.”

Is this allowed?  Warren says that the Department of Education has been given the authority “to modify, compromise, waive or release student loans.”  This would help to combat predatory lending, and would also increase credit scores.

So how will this proposed federal shortfall of $640 billion be replenished?  Warren has a plan for that, too.  She intends to tax “households with assets of more than $50 million.”
