Nile Tilapia (Photo by Bjorn Christian Torrissen) |
About 5500 years ago, inhabitants of the central Sahara were enjoying fish dinners when not fending off “elephants, hippos and rhinos.” The climate was quite humid, and the environment “savannah-like.”
As conditions became drier, diets changed accordingly.
Tilapia gave way to species that could withstand harsh conditions. Humans adapted then, as they may have to now.
