Philosophers have known for ages that you can’t necessarily trust your senses.

Yet when a beloved voice on the line asks for money, many will respond affirmatively.  After all, that person wouldn’t have asked if it weren’t absolutely necessary.

Perhaps.  But then again, it might not even be that person.  Technology has advanced to the point where familiar voices can now be replicated.  Scammers have taken advantage of this in order to take advantage of you.

A stated friend might instead be an enemy.  In this brave new world of virtual relationships, it's harder than ever to tell the difference.
