A “two-and-a-half-year-old male” that is being tracked with a battery-operated collar has traveled over 800 miles within the past five months.
Scientists believe that he is searching for “prey, territory or a mate.”
Although his winding path has crisscrossed “farms, water and highways,” contact with humans has thus far been minimal. Researchers are nonetheless concerned about avoiding any “untoward accidents.”
Traditional tiger territories are already filled to capacity, so younger tigers are forced to travel farther. It takes a “breeding
prey population of 500 animals” to ensure enough food for each tiger.
