23 and You

DNA Segment   (by Zephyris)
Sure, there may be advantages to having your DNA analyzed.  But are there advantages to having it publicized?

You might think that there’s a snowball’s chance in you-know-where of THAT happening.  After all, you’re just one anonymous donor within a huge database.

But think again.  Suppose there's a serial killer on the loose, and DNA matches could help to identify who it is.  Or suppose some hacker got into a database containing your information. How confidential would it all be then?

Relatives could also be at risk.  Identifying your profile is akin (and a kin) to identifying theirs.

So think twice before submitting such personal information to a for-profit enterprise.  Your DNA profile can be far more revealing than either social-security or account numbers.
