Chili Winters

Although northern winters tend to be chilly, Mediterranean ones tend to have chili.

Chili peppers are a delightful addition to many a Mediterranean dish.  This region’s traditional diet (with its emphasis upon fruits and vegetables) is healthful to begin with, and capsaicin seems to make it even more so.

Capsaicin, chili’s spicy component, has been associated with a sharp decrease in deaths from cardiovascular disease.  It has
also been associated with a decrease in the overall death rate.

Spicing up those long winter nights might be just the thing to combat sadness.  Capsaicin has also been linked to “better sleep” and happier moods.
