14th Century Insomnia (Public Domain) |
Can’t sleep? Have you suddenly awakened at 3 AM with a to-do list running through your head?
How about writing it down before bedtime? Getting things off your chest and onto paper has been found to reduce rumination about pending tasks.
Perhaps it’s not tasks that are keeping you awake, but relationship quandaries. Write yourself an e-mail about what happened and how to possible resolve it. Better still, keep an ongoing journal.
But get up from that desk and move around, too. Aerobic exercise can help with insomnia. And while you're at it, “exercise self-compassion” also.
Treat yourself at least as kindly as you would cherished friends. After all, you deserve a good night’s sleep.
