Trust the Horse

When you’re a newbie cowgirl straight out of Philadelphia, there’s no better mantra than “trust the horse.”

Phyllis Coletta found this out when she chucked her Pennsylvania lawyer life for a Colorado wilderness one.  Signing up for a six-day pack trip in the Rockies, Coletta soon found herself clinging to the saddle.

It was her “sturdy horse” who kept the faith while navigating the “scariest, hairiest” switchback turns at 12,000 feet.  Coletta was meanwhile mumbling “trust the horse” as she honored “the Force and the call in [her] soul.”

She later reported that Colorado had changed her “from the inside out, like a deep cleanse – a spiritual colonoscopy.”  She figured that we are all “tougher than we think,” and that “nature is strong and beautiful and can carry us through anything.”

Coletta also concluded:  Leap and ye shall find.  For when you jump with faith, a study net will appear.
