She Voted and So Did They

(Library of Congress photo)
Back in 1872, women did not have the right to vote.  This did not deter Susan B. Anthony; in fact, it spurred her on.  She illegally voted during that year’s presidential election and was therefore arrested.

Arrested, but not stopped.

The courageous efforts of Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and like-minded souls eventually led to the Nineteenth Amendment, giving women that very precious right.  Many who exercised this right during yesterday’s election expressed gratitude by placing “I Voted” stickers on Anthony’s gravestone.

Twitter tributes were also abundant.  One read as follows:  I cannot even imagine a world in which I would not have the right to vote.  Your legacy – women voting, running for office, and more!
