Walking a mile in his moccasins

(Brooklyn Museum display)
They say that you can’t understand a man until you’ve walked a mile in his moccasins.

Nevertheless, you can at least try.  When University of Tennessee student Garrett Johnson was hoofing it to a restaurant, he noticed a homeless man with torn shoes on the strip.  Johnson promised to bring him some adequate “moccasins.”

Shortly thereafter, Johnson returned with two pairs of “comfortable tennis shoes.”  These were a good fit and an even better gift.
