Scientists
at Japan’s Kagoshima University analyzed
“whether the smell of
linalool, a fragrant alcohol found in
lavender extracts, helps mice relax.” They found this to be the case when neurons within the rodents’
noses were activated by linalool.
This study
is far from conclusive concerning
linalool’s effect upon humans. However, herbalists have touted the
calming effects of lavender for
ages. This research may bring us one step
closer to proving the veracity of such
claims.
