Sea here!

If you’re illegally harvesting sea cucumbers in Puget Sound, you might find yourself with a hefty fine, and/or worse.

Sea cucumbers, animals that resemble their vegetable namesake, are a key part of their local ecosystem.  Harvest too many, and you endanger the future health of the environment.

One of the largest busts recently befell the owner of a seafood company.  Hoon Namkoong was not only ordered to “pay 1.5 million in restitution,” but was also “sentenced to two years in prison.”

Namkoong had taken “nearly 20 percent of the total allowed harvest” of sea cucumbers statewide,” thus doing “serious damage” to Washington State’s ecology.
