KKW in 2014 (Photo by Eva Rinaldi) |
KKW has
gotten a bad rap over the years. Dismissed as a flimsy (or floozy) reality star,
West has so much more to offer. The daughter of a brilliant lawyer and an
equally brilliant organizer, she seems to
have inherited a generous helping of both
talents.
After
hearing about Alice Johnson’s life sentence
for non-violent, drug-related
crimes, West tweeted her outrage. She later followed it up with a
woman-to-woman call to Ivanka
Trump. One thing led to another, and
West ended up in the Oval Office
last week.
KKW pleaded Johnson’s
case directly to President
Trump, who then commuted the life
sentence. Johnson was finally set free, after
spending more than two decades behind bars.
Both women
feel there is so much more to do. KKW intends to continue such heartfelt
work, and Johnson recently stated: “’Thank you’
is not big enough… I have to walk my ‘thank
you’ out. I have to live it out…”
And now she
can do so freely, thanks to some hefty
doses of female initiative.
