Sandberg: Have a heartbeat

Sticky sweet...   (Public Domain)
Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook’s chief operating officer, offered up a bit of CPR to this year’s MIT graduates.

The essence of her commencement speech was that technology “needs a human heartbeat.”  In other words, it should be used to bring folks together rather than to divide and con them.

Was this an earnest sentiment, or merely another attempt to seduce the masses?  Quickie apologies on TV commercials don’t do much to instill trust.  Perhaps an ivory-tower monologue will.

And yet, as Sandberg urged graduates to “own their mistakes,” details about Facebook’s own were strangely absent from her talk.
