Quit while you're ahead

Trimurti   (Painting by Andhra Pradesh)
Knowing when to quit is just as important as knowing when to start or stay.  All three skills are integral to success.

The Trimurti, meaning “three forms,” is the “Holy Trinity” of Hinduism.  It includes Brahma (creator), Vishnu (preserver) and Shiva (destroyer).  These three gods personify the aforementioned phases of action: beginning, maintaining and ending.

Barry Trotz ended his run with the Washington Capitals shortly after leading them to victory.  This frees him up to be “the best available head coach” in the National Hockey League.  It also allows for a sharp increase in salary.

Endings and beginnings (the flip sides of one another) often seem risky because they involve immediate change.  Staying seems safer in the short run, but can easily become counterproductive as time marches on.
