When Bobby
Kennedy heard the shot that
killed him, his final words were: Is
everybody okay? Perhaps he knew he
was dying, but perhaps he didn’t. Perhaps he wondered whether the
bullet had hit someone else.
The busboy
who had just greeted the senator wound
up cushioning Kennedy’s
bleeding head. Juan Romero then
took a rosary from his own pocket
and wrapped it around the hand he had just shaken.
Romero later
recalled thinking: …he would need it a lot more than me. Maybe, maybe not.
