Junk is Junk

Space Debris  (Image by David Shikomba)

Whether it’s sitting in the garage or flying about in space, junk is junk.  And it can certainly get in the way.

When it gets in the way of a play area, that’s one thing.  But when it gets in the way of a spacecraft, that’s quite another.

Elon Musk has good intentions. With efforts toward making high-speed internet available for all, he has launched space satellites “by the dozens.”  Not all of them have been viable.  In fact, “around 3%... may have failed.”

When one hunk of junk crashes into another, the result isn’t pretty.  A whole lot of “dangerous space debris” can be generated.  What astronauts would want to see that coming their way?
