Coolidge in 1919 (Public Domain) |
So when this
30th President of the United States
saw a thief in his hotel room, he
called upon the unseen. According to The Dispatch, Coolidge told the man, “If you want
money, let’s talk this over.”
The would-be
burglar explained that he and a friend
needed to pay their hotel bill and buy
train tickets back to college. Coolidge
then “gave him $32, calling it a loan so
the intruder would not be a thief.”
How’s that
for a president who focuses upon
breaking down barriers rather than building
them?
