Lord of the Molten Ring

Question:  What do Frodo, LeBron and the Hubble all have in common?  Answer: They’re all focused upon a ring!

The public is quite familiar with Lord of the Rings and the NBA, but not so much with the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).  This scientific marvel has been scanning the skies for decades, coming up with gigabytes upon gigabytes of data.

In 2020, Hubble came up with a “stunning” image of an Einstein ring, otherwise known as a molten ring.  This “shining loop of light” curls around a Southern Hemisphere galaxy and reveals how that corner of the universe may have looked nine billion years ago.
