For the past 50 years, doctors have prescribed bumetanide in order to “manage fluid retention,” a condition often associated with hypertension. Because this drug changes cellular levels of fluid, it may also influence “how neurons in the brain trigger electrical signaling.”
Bumetanide might also reverse “the effects of altered APOE genes,” which in turn could offer protection against the development of Alzheimer’s.
