Amateur photographer Samantha Dehring didn’t think about that when she got up close to a mama bear and her cubs. Although Yellowstone visitors are ordered to keep a minimum distance of 100 yards from bears or wolves, she foolishly ignored that rule.
When mama predictably charged, Dehring was lucky to escape with her life. She’ll have plenty of time to contemplate the proverbial wisdom of “don’t poke the bear” during her “four days in jail” and her “one year of supervised probation.”
