Hertz Hurts?

According to The Mercury News, Hertz Corporation failed to forward a receipt that would have freed Herbert Alford from years of wrongful imprisonment.

Alford was convicted of a strip-mall murder which occurred just minutes after he was actually renting an airport vehicle.  His lawyer had requested the rental record from Hertz in 2016, but it wasn’t released until 2018.

Hertz claims that it hadn’t been able to locate said record until advances in technology made this possible.  The company alleges to have continued “good faith” efforts all along.  In the meantime, Alford was stuck behind bars for more than “1,700 days.”
