All God's Children

Just as Saint Francis reached out centuries ago to one mighty Islamic leader, Pope Francis reached out yesterday to another.

While on a three-day historic visit to Iraq, the pontiff made it a priority to engage with people of many traditions.  He met with Shia Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani for an hour, thanking him for befriending Iraq’s vulnerable Christian population.

Francis then traveled to Ur, birthplace of Abraham.  There he met with "diverse religious" representatives, including Sunni and Shia Muslims, Zoroastrians, Mandaeans, Kakais, Yazidis and Baha’is.
