Heat's On

Heat Wave    (Public Domain)
It was bad enough that 2019 “was the second hottest year” on record, but now it’s feeling like dej̀a vu all over again.

Most of the United States is under what’s politely called a heat dome.  There are plenty of other names for the rising tempers and temperatures that this begets.  We’re talking humid 90s for large sections of the country, which feels more like the 100s.

This is tough enough on its own.  When coupled with a pandemic, it becomes especially lethal.  People hardest hit are those without air conditioning: impoverished folks who are particularly susceptible to COVID-19.

And it’s not just the United States that is suffering.  International climate change seems to be accelerating, with 2019 “capping off the world’s hottest decade in recorded history.”
