Topographic Map of Zealandia (by Ulrich Lange) |
Many speak about the
wonders of New Zealand, but New
Zealand is just a small part of the
mighty
continent Zealandia.
Never been there? That’s because most of Zealandia is now
beneath the sea. After breaking off from Australia and Antarctica
“85 million years ago,” it eventually
sank into the ocean’s depths.
Nevertheless, you can
now virtually explore Zealandia. GNS Science recently launched an
interactive website from which
viewers can identify various aspects
of the continent. They will be able to “locate all the ancient
and modern volcanoes,” as well as “the
land mass ridges.”
