Six of them plunged to their death while trying to save the baby and one another. Then
five more followed suit. Another
two managed to survive, and were found “floundering on a rock.”
This is not only an heroic loss, but also a tragic one.
Once the “ubiquitous” symbol of Thailand, the elephant population has dramatically declined through “destruction of its natural habitat.”
