Bouncing Back

Super Ball!    (photo by Lenore Edman)
When life hands you a lemon, make lemonade.  We’ve all heard that expression, perhaps one too many times.  But what to do when the juicer is broken?

Resilient people might say, “Grab that lemon with your own two hands and squeeze it!”  That’s one major trait which sets them apart from those who freeze in the headlights.

Research has shown that resilient tendencies can offset emotional paralysis.  So focus upon that which you can control, and begin with easier tasks.  As success incrementally builds, you will feel empowered to do more.

Keep up with social life, “even if you don’t feel like it.”  Put a positive spin on interactions with others.  See people as “potential allies” rather than as conspiring enemies.

Do all this, and your “happiness set point” (the way you customarily feel) will rise to the occasion.
